Feminism has gotten a heck of a lot more mainstream (yay!!). When I was in high school and even for many years after I didn't really understand what Feminism truly was, it always had a radicalism or negative connotation associated with it. It has only been very recent that I have begun to develop my own concept of what feminism really means to me specifically (It might mean something else to anyone else) and how feminism was so much more than what I was previously taught.
My research has led me to understand that feminism means having the freedom to choose to do whatever you want to do.
Whether that is taking on "traditionally male roles" or if its taking on "traditionally female roles" or somewhere in between, feminism means doing whatever the fuck you want no matter what gender you identify as. Basically, its everyone being equal and able to make their own choices in life. Imagine. Equality. So simple in theory, just not in execution.
The thing is, Disney has received a bad wrap (up until lately) because people tend to believe that all the Princess movies make it seem like women are only doing things because of what men want. Which I might not really have a fair argument against, but I am going to try. I think we had better role models then we have been led to believe.
First and Foremost, my main girl:
I could probably go on, but this is already getting lengthy. So even though at first glance some may feel that the Disney Princesses are just doing things for the men in their life, a lot of their decisions come from a place of love, bravery and self awareness. They know what they need to do and they go out and do it. It doesn't matter that they are stereotypically "girlie", who says girlie girls can't be feminists too?
There is nothing wrong with having perfect princess hair and also knowing that your choices are valuable and valid.
Having a best friend is a privilege. It is one you earn through hour long phone calls discussing the movie you are currently watching together on netflix but in different locations, by sharing dairy queen cakes in their entirety, many burgers, and safety phone calls when you busing after dark. I am very lucky to have such a human who I can do all these things and more with.
I did however want to discuss some other best friends that I thought were ALMOST as cool as me and mine.
Joey and Chandler
Mindy and Peter
Meredith and Cristina
Nick and Schmidt
Alex, Dave, Max, Brad, Jane and Penny
So while none of these pairings/groups are quite as awesome as MY best friend and I, they are pretty cool. Luckily they are fake and we are real so even if their adventures are more interesting to the general public, that is because they are scripted. We don't have editors. Well, except on our Podcast... Which the editor is me. So that is a bit tricky. You should probably listen to our podcast though.
We are pretty cool sometimes.
Seriously though.... LISTEN
When you wake up,
to the garçon choking,
forced to check up,
make sure he's not dying.
But when all turns out well,
And you can't fall back to sleep,
Tumblr is always there,
Instead of counting sheep.

Rom-Coms are delightful. I am not gong to deny that. I spent the years 11-16 watching almost exclusively Romantic Comedies. I have since branched out, but Rom-Coms will forever hold a special place in my heart.
The problem with Rom-Coms is they rarely have much of variation plot wise. There are usually very specific ways a romance can unfold, and the main issue I take with it is the complete lack of realism in it.
I know love isn't supposed to be realistic, if it was it would the worst movie ever. But how about, we take a look at what those movies would be if we tried to make them more realistic.
Kissing In the Rain
The Romantic Gesture
The Slow Burn
It builds up over time, slowly gaining momentum. You know the entire time that it is the plan, but are just patiently waiting for the tiny little hints you get. The main issue with this, is what if after they finally get together, they realize they are not actually compatible? Some people just don't work as a couple, no matter how much they love each other. (I do want to clarify and say I believe firmly that Ron and Hermione belong together. I love them as a couple and want them to be together forever in my imagination).
More Than Friends
I would love to see a movie where two main characters don't end up making out, having sex, then having things get awkward for a bit before finally realizing that surprise, they loved each other all along. Sometimes people are actually just friends. It happens. No make-outs required.
The Ross and Rachel
Let's put aside the whole "on a break/off a break" debate for two seconds, these two epitomize the break it off get back together nature that is sitcom television. Sometimes, you should just stay apart but it is hard, especially if you have to still be friendly and spend time together. But come on. Don't be ridiculous about it. Stay apart or stay together and stop fighting. Although that won't make as good television. So never mind. Ignore me. You do your thing.
This ended up longer than anticipated but I will eventually write how to make a realistic Rom-Com - That will likely end up less romantic and less comedic and more just depressing realism. IT WILL BE SO FUN!
My fridge is pretty empty,
There is nothing to eat.
I mean, I could make some KD,
Or something more healthy.
The problem I suppose,
Is simple to resolve.
But laziness is powerful,
And the couch is so comfy.
The other day I was listening to a Nerdist Podcast with guest star Robert Rodriguez. He is a director/writer of many hit films I haven't seen, and also Spy Kids. Good job dude. You destroyed my childhood. Do you know how bad I wanted to be a child spy and never got to actualize that dream? I suppose it's not your fault. You are forgiven.
Anyway, the point is that even though I wasn't super familiar with much of his work he was still super interesting. He said something about his writing process that really struck me.
Action before Inspiration.
That is so true. I often wait for inspiration to start writing but I find some of my best work comes out of the times I just sit down and force it. For example, Nanowrimo every year. I successfully complete that every year and even though I don't feel inspired very time I sit down to write, as long as I can convince myself to start typing eventually I find it hard to stop.
So I figured that because I had no idea what to write about here right now I would just do a train of thought post and see where action leads us.
Trains. Shining time station. Why did that guy's hair have that stupid curl at the front? What kind of hair gel did he use? How did he not end up with acne underneath that one spot from the excess grease? Grease 2 is on American Netflix but I haven't seen it on Canadian Netflix. That seems unfair. Unfair like how cool Michelle Phiefer is in that movie. Stephanie will be forever more one of my favourite female characters. You know what she never did? Change for a man. She just wore her reversible leather jacket and made out with people she clearly should have recognized. How do people not recognize others when you can see 80% of their face? Super heroes should really be a bit more careful. Like seriously Superman, cover your face when your doing the illegal vigilante work, don't take off your glasses and be like "I think that'll do right?".
SO that is probably more than enough. My brain takes strange journeys. You should leave a comment of your train of thought. That way I won't feel so crazy. Your starting word is: Pretzels.
Obviously this is not what Robert Rodriguez had in mind... Sorry man, I will go write some beautiful prose to make you proud. (I mean, I won't. I will probably write something about my dog because he is snoring and its funny.)
When I win the lottery,
Oh how pleased I will be.
When I win the lottery,
I will feel so very free.
With millions to spend,
without any end,
When I win the lottery.

What do you think your life would be titled if it were the inspiration for a musical?
I have a few options for mine to get you inspired:
Overly Attached To Dogs
The dramatic story of a girl who had very few friends, but who bonds with her dogs so much so that she literally doesn't even realize everyone else around her left.
A Thrilling tale of a girl who avoids everyones phone calls because she really doesn't have a valid excuse of why she doesn't want to go out, she just doesn't want to okay? How long can she avoid the calls? When will someone come check to see if she is still alive? Where did she put her bag of chips?
She's Not Dead Yet?
A comedic look into the life a girl whose accident prone nature and poor choices should have led her to an early grave, but instead everything is just awful. Perhaps she is actually already in hell but she doesn't know it yet?
The Bad Adult
She's not a girl, not yet a decent human being. A dark comedy that will make you feel good about yourself, because at least you aren't this much of a mess.
Reality is Boring
An upbeat and colourful expression of what it looks like to live completely in denial.
Leave me a comment about your Life Musical! Although, fair warning: If your life sounds really interesting and I turn it into an actual musical you can't sue me. I mean, probably not. I don't have anything worth taking so...
