Let's Continue to make movies with interesting women in the lead.
If you haven't watched Jessica Jones yet, what the hell are you waiting for? One of the best shows I have ever watched. She is one of the most amazing and well rounded characters complete with flaws that make me happier than if she were just perfect. Shes strong both physically and emotionally and the fact that she has her struggles makes everything more interesting.
Agent Peggy Carter is a lovely case where the character was not simply the super hero love interest. Marvel could have very easily let Captain America love whoever, but Peggy is a hero in her own right. She is so brave and you know that she would have had work her ass off to get where she was being that she was a woman in the 40s. Her show is down right delightful and she is capable even when the love of her life is not around.
A lot of people threw such a fit over the main character in Mad Max being a women, to those people I say shove it up your private places. She is amazing, and she could kick your ass. It is wonderfully refreshing to see movie studios giving better parts to women where they are just as important to a story as the men. I mean, there is still so much left to do because the fact that people got mad about her being there is enough of a problem, but at least it's a start.
Dear, sweet, wonderful, amazing Rey. You were such a lovely amazing treat in a wonderful movie. You were so smart and so talented and extremely interesting. I cannot wait to see more of you and learn more about you. You held your own in this movie and you were just the very best. Sincerely, Super fan.
Batman always wins in this show. It is magnificent.
All I wanted was a win I guess. Pretty sad for a six year old.
On the plus side, it took society quite while to beat a "feminine" role of BatGIRL into my head. It works out okay because Batgirl is a total badass and I am super okay with wanting to be her, but I first and foremost wanted to be Batman.
Ariel is young yes, but she has passion, interest and desire to learn about an entirely different race. She is essentially an anthropologist. She was collecting things long before she even laid eyes on that dream boat Eric. Now, when you see a man as handsome as him you can get a little crush sure, but she clearly had wanted to go up to the land long before him. She didn't just change her entire life only for him, she likely had been thinking about it for a while. She's a dreamer and a brave girl for standing up against that enormous beast who is her father. That takes guts.
Here is the main thing about these princesses, none of them apologize for their interests. Ariel loves humans, Bell loves books and adventure. She just happens to be in a small town. She is smart enough to ignore Gaston who just wants her as a prize. She knows she is worth more, and that she deserves her adventure. She also saves her father's life in trading places with him. I mean it worked out in the ways that it did, but imagine the beast never turned nice? She would still be there, because she took control of the situation and saved someone she cared for. Brave as hell.
Another woman who risks her safety for the ones she loves. After breaking out of her over protective fathers boundaries, she takes charge of her life, refusing to be married to whoever he deicides. She falls for a man who is not the most perfect of humans, other than his face and voice because we all know Aladdin is dreamy for a cartoon, but she loves him even after she knows he isn't a prince. She also is smart enough to help save everyone by distracting the bad guy to help get things going. That's pretty brave when the guy you are fighting is "the most powerful sorcerer in the world".
She had a dream. She accomplished it. How many of you can say that? She has singular, focused vision and she accomplished what she wanted and found new dreams along the way. She is creative and clever, using her smarts along her trip to keep safe and get out of trouble when needed. She defies what her authority figure says because she has to choose her own life. I mean, it's for the best because her authority figure had kidnapped her but you know, even if it wasn't a weird witch lady it is so hard to step out on your own and take a risk, Rapunzel is badass.
