Today my sweet internet, I would like to discuss your negative evil twin, the internet. Now you know what I mean right? The internet can be divided into different categories. More than just good or bad because it's the internet and it is enormous, but for argument's sake let us just talk about those which fall into the BAD INTERNET category.
I am talking about the unnecessarily malicious and mean part of the internet responsible for leaving mean comments on YouTube videos, or hacking into people's phone's and posting all their personal photos. I am talking about the portion of the internet that is completely nonconstructive and would hurt no one if it would just vanish. They are like the spiders of the internet. What? You think that killing all spiders would ruin the ecosystem? THAT'S WHAT THEY WANT YOU TO BELIEVE! Stupid eight-legged fuckers. Yes I see the irony in me being mean to spiders. No I don't really care, they don't have feelings only plots to kill me in my sleep via tunneling through my ear canal and out my nostrils. Yep, now I won't sleep tonight.
Anyway, the prompt for this post came from a text message from my best friend in the whole wide world saying something to the effect of "I just got an anonymous Tumblr message that just says 'you are a cunt.'" No explanation or even an identity to be like, oh well I guess this person is allowed to not like me because I ran over their cat. Nothing.
Although, because I know Crystal, if she ran over your cat she would never forgive herself and would be so sorry and you would be so mean to then call her a cunt because she is sorry dammit!
See, Crystal, took this in stride and replied to the rude comment comically as per usual but I am still slightly annoyed. I think it is because I get all Hufflepuff-loyal about my friends and have this weird urge to punch everyone who makes them feel anything but happy. I mean, I hardly ever actually do it, but if I had more will power to leave the safety of a chair you could be sure I would give some people some sucker punches and then run away.
I don't know if it is actually the fact that she got a message like this that bothered me. When I saw it on her Tumblr and realized that they wrote "ur" which I really hate, which in that case anonymous, she spell checked your insult when she sent it to her friend. That looks even worse on you. It might be that, or it might be the fact that someone dared to insult one of the very few people who I would literally protect with my dying body, but the whole thing just bugs me.
Now I know this just opens me up to receiving all kinds of hate mail, or any mail... Someone send me mail. But it doesn't seem fair that being on the internet or even as a celebrity should mean you should just accept getting shit on because people want to and it is your job to be their toilet. Metaphors. You are welcome.
Why can't everyone just be nicer to each other. Or at least if you are going to degrade or disprove of someone, give them something constructive they can use to work on that or acknowledge your own faults in the current situation.
Exhibit A: "You're displeasing to my political and social standpoints, but because I am in no way forced to interact with you in person or even electronically, and it is entirely in my control to remove myself from this situation I will do so and allow you to focus on more positive aspects of your day."
Exhibit B: "Your views are disrespectful to _____ group/people/person/thing and here is a few reasons why: ______, _____, _____. I understand you have the right to your own opinion but you should know that based on your current attitude towards the situation I cannot agree with you in any way.
So next time you feel like being an internet bully, remember that you should just shut your damn mouth instead because there is likely an angry nerd who is friends with the person you are insulting and they will be real disgruntled at your lack luster insults and improper grammar.
*Disclaimer: If someone is being a horrible human in general, like a racist, homophobic, prejudice, unreasonable asshole, then I understand the need to yell mean things. But just always try to have the reasons they are wrong to back yourself up. It will make them look worse when you are so prepared with your witty comebacks! Practice in the mirror, it's what the Sims do and they have excellent Charisma points!
This got long...
